Every length starts on one of four looms in our atelier on the Croix-Rousse, goes to the dye house in lots of forty metres, and comes back washed and pressed by hand. Order by the metre, or book a fitting for a made piece.

Eleven colours across three weaves. Each length is woven when you order it, so the minimum is one metre and the colour is the one in the swatch set, not the one on a screen. Eight of the eleven are below; saffron, moss and slate are in the set.

Four looms on the Croix-Rousse

The hill above Lyon where silk has been woven since the 1830s. Our workshop is a courtyard on rue Burdeau, with the looms on the ground floor and the finishing room above.

Warping a 140 cm charmeuse takes two days: 9,600 ends drawn through the heddles by hand before a single pick is thrown. The looms then run at 160 picks a minute, and one metre of 19 momme takes about an hour and a half including inspection under a raking light.

The grey cloth goes to a dye house twenty minutes away in lots of forty metres, which is why a colour can sell out for a fortnight. It comes back to the finishing room to be washed, dried flat and pressed. Nothing is coated or weighted.

Charmeuse is a 4 over 1 satin. Each warp end floats over four picks before it is tied down, and those long floats are where the sheen comes from.

  • Bring a garment or a drawing; up to 3 metres is cut from the loom while you wait
